Both American runners will provide their competitive aggressiveness which will ensure a show for the fans in the Transvulcania Naviera Armas 2019
The Transvulcania Naviera Armas 2019 will count with the talent and ambition of two of the best American runners nowadays. Max King and Megan Kimmel will be two of the attractions in the eleventh edition of the event in La Palma. Kimmel and King, both members of the Salomon team, will make their debut in the Transvulcania Naviera Armas, which extends the list of elite runners who will take part in one of the biggest races in the Skyrunning calendar of the year.
The 39-year-old Max King wants to make history in the race. King told us that he has some references from other runners who have already participate in the Transvulcania, such as Dakota Jones, who achieved the first position in 2012. “I know part of the route and I know how it feels to be in La Palma. This will help me to prepare the race in best conditions, for sure. I always wanted to compete in a spectacular place like this, with such amazing fans, who will make it more easy for us, as well as the great job of the organisation of the race, who will make it even more special”, said Max King, World Champion in 2011 and winner of some mythical races like the Chuckanut 50K (2017), Fourmidable 50K (2017) and The Broken Arrow Skyrace 26K (2017).
On the other hand, it will be also the debut of one of the greatest runners ever. Megan Kimmel, who could not participate in last year’s race, although she introduced the Transvulcania Naviera Armas in her planification, will come back to the island in order to fight for the victory. After overcoming the injury which pulled her apart of participating in the Transvulcania Naviera Armas 2018, Megan Kimmel will be one of the favourites for achieving the triumph in the Canarian race.
The results achieved by Megan Kimmel are astonishing. In 2016, Kimmel won the Skyrunning World Championship, after winning four of the six races of the Championship. She has also won many other races, such as the High Trail Vanoise, Marathon du Mont Blanc, Yadin Skyrunning Festival, the Limonextreme, The Rut 28k, Materhorn Ultraks 45k, North Face Endurance Challenge California 50M, Dolomites Skyrace or the Flagstaff Sky Race.
“It is an absolute privilege for us to count with two runners with a lot of experience in different competitions and with such a good international reputation”, said Ascensión Rodríguez, sports counsellor of La Palma. She also spoke about the “competitive character of both runners, which will ensure a great fight for the win among all elite runners who will take part in the Transvulcania Naviera Armas 2019”.
