The route starts in the Recreational Area of ‘Refugio de El Pilar’ (El Paso) at 1.450 meters high, and continues through the Gran Recorrido path GR 131 – Ruta del Bastón, until reaching Puerto de Tazacorte where the race finish at sea level, besides the beach.
With a total distance of 45.0 km and 1,884 meters of positive cumulative gain and 3,329 meters of negative cumulative gain, this race modality requires a special physical conditional because the final part of the route descend from the highest point of the Island, Roque de Los Muchachos (2.426 m.s.n.m.) to the sea level (Puerto de Tazacorte Beach) so the participants must bare this in mind for their previous training programs.
You need to be in excellent physical conditions. So this race require the following:
- Runners must be a minimum of 18 years old to participate.
- Runners must prove they have completed any other long-distance mountain race (more than 20 km long) in the previous 18 months to Transvulcania. This requirement must be justified at the time of registration, otherwise, the registration won’t be confirmed.
