La Palma is know as the beautiful island because of its incredible landscapes, imposing volcanoes, deep forests,welcoming beaches and star-filled night skies.

Clear skies and strict light pollution laws mean that La Palma is such a fantastic place for star gazing and astronomy that is has earned a Starlight award. In 2002 UNESCO declared the whole island of La Palma aWorld Biosphere Reserve.

This volcanic island seems to be painted green due to a deep shroud of prehistoric forest. Connect with nature under some of the world’s clearest skies, relax on its welcoming beaches or hike through deep gorges and past volcanoes. La Palma’s trails take you past waterfalls and up to the island’s peaks. Once you reach the top look up. The night sky is unforgettable.

The Footpath Network of La Palma interconnects the entire island territory by using the traditional paths trodden over the centuries by the island’s inhabitants. Hikers will discover a huge variety of climates, relief and both natural and cultural landscapes on La Palma.

Hiking paths La Palma offers hikers the chance to hike all around the island in an easy and safe manner. Hiking paths are clearly distinguished by means of initials and a number. Basically, there are three types:

  • GR Long-distance hiking paths Long: several-day hiking paths
  • PR Short-distance hiking paths Short: one-day routes
  • SL Local paths: Less than 10 kilometres in length
