Four days of the most authentic trail running, will see the vertical kilometer move to Wednesday and the marathon and the half marathon to Friday
Transvulcania has decided to change the 2020 schedule, to turn La Palma into the nerve center of the world trail running for four consecutive days. Things kick off on Wednesday, May 6. The hard ramps that begin in the Port of Tazacorte and reach the El Time forest summit will be the scene of the Transvulcania Vertical Kilometer, with 1,600 meters of alltitude gained over 7.6 kilometers. Part of the Vertical Kilometer World Circuit, the best athletes are guaranteed in La Palma to climb the top and fastest way.
The next day, on Thursday, May 7, the Kids-Junior Transvulcania will take place in the Pilar refuge, with different distances and categories adapted to the ages of the participants. The organization recognises the importance this test not only as a platform for the growth of future skyrunners, but also as a formula to promote healthy living from an early age.
The most notable change introduced by Transvulcania will be seen on Friday, May 8. It will be the first time that the Half Marathon and the Marathon enjoy their own day, assuming greater prominence without being overshadowed by the ultra marathon. This change will also allow us to comply with the technical recommendations made by the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, regarding the impact that affects a single territory that we must keep together. At the start will be athletes from the Vertical Kilometer, held two days earlier, who will mix with those more specialist in half marathons.
The marathon is the Transvulcania test that has grown the most in quantity and quality. In this edition another step rises to become the Spanish Trail Championship, which means, together with the effort of the organization, that at the start there are the best in the specialty from Spain along with the first ‘swords’ at international level. 45 kilometers where local runners will try to show that they can be in the front group.
Transvulcania will hold the Ultramarathon on Saturday, May 9. 1,000 adventurers will complete a challenge reserved for the chosen ones, avoiding the the bottlenecks that have formed in different parts of the course when they have competed alongside athletes of the marathon.
With these changes, which have been communicated to each and every one of the registered runners, we seek to protect the course, have a more extensive race calendar and achieve a media and economic impact for La Palma. We also want to give more personalized attention to the participants in each of the modalities. The runners will be able to pick up their race number and enter the race environment from Tuesday, May 5 with the opening of the Corridor Fair that will be held in Los Llanos de Aridane.
